What's YOUR Style?

What creates style? Wikepedia says Style may refer to:
Genre, a loose set of criteria for a category or composition
Design, the process of creating something
Format, various terms that refer to the style of different things.

Do you know what inspires you? Do you recognize what keeps your creative side motivated? Those are the things that make up your individual style.

I think style is a little bit about putting yourself into whatever it is you're doing. And Mary and Gayle have done that through their "projects" and this sale.

Again, in their own words: "Our sentimentality for simple objects plays into our style. We both have a strong connection to the land and a great appreciation for the generations of our families that have invested their lives into this community. Though we have a lot of the same tastes, we have two very differing personalities. Our style reflects quality and workmanship as opposed to newness."

From the Photo Album of a Refinishing Mama!

This picture came in from consignor Michelle Larzelier...and we loved it! A picture tells a thousand words...I think little Isana will be glad when the sale is over and she gets her mom back! :)

What is this thing anyway?

I have often wondered how to categorize this type of sale. Friends from California call them "barn sales". It has a charming country sound. And it's not an antique sale, nor a yard sale, but we're not selling "barn" stuff or selling out of a barn! So unless one of you comes up with a better description for the sale, let me know. For now, we'll stick with "barn sale" until something better comes along!

Any one out there know of any other barn sales? If so, what was your favorite find?

For a Good Cause

The folks in Greenleaf have been outstanding to us and we wanted to thank them with a donation. We will be auctioning a one of a kind dining set. Silent bidding will begin on Friday, October 3rd and end at 2:00 on Saturday. The table is spectacular; it is exotic with various colors and wild zebra upholstering. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Greenleaf Friends Academy Church to help roof the rest of their sanctuary. So come out and make a bid so we can make an impact in the community!

There's Something about Mary...and Gayle!

I asked these two ladies to give me some background about their specialties in order for us to get to know them a little better. Here's what I learned!

Mary Padilla is a decorative artist that specializes in murals. She embraces the imperfections of objects and looks forward to the restoration process--she can fix anything. Mary has a gift for transforming dilapidated roadside treasures and reclaiming their beauty. Gayle Batt loves to shop and she needed to find an outlet for the treasures she can't leave behind! She loves making ordinary items extraordinary and pushing the envelope on what people expect in decorating and accessorizing. Bring the two ladies together and you have a eclectic collection of goods that are simple, exotic, charming, odd, eccentric, classic and in almost all cases these objects will speak to your heart.

Can you say "Personality"!?!

Look at this great retro apron from talented designer Pam Lowry. Pam is from Caldwell and has lived in Idaho for two years. She'll be offering handmade aprons and bags as well as painted furniture at the sale. Don't miss getting a piece of her artwork!

Why the name Simply Content?

I asked Gayle and Mary to tell me why they named the sale "Simply Content"; and I loved hearing the answer! I'm going to let them tell you here in their own words...

"The name Simply Content really describes a blessed state of life that Mary and I want everyone to experience. The very simple things in life make us happy. God has given us the gift of contentment, and the appreciation for simplicity. We are always delightfully reminded of our love of "simple" things when we are yardsaling. Our favorite "find" may not be a treasured antique or a pair of Gucci loafers, but instead it may be a vinyl 45 that we treasured from our childhood."

I'll be posting some more "interviews" with our Simply Content women in the coming weeks, as well as more details about the sale! Check back soon!

A Preview of This Year's Treasures!
